This is a short discussion about the old saying, "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me."


The philosophy was something commonly heard from mothers to their kids in the 1970s... as when I was growing-up. To be honest, it kept me out of a lot of fights, and the philosophy kept my emotions stable; and, as a kid, I quickly learned who were good decent friends versus those who were not worth my time. Name-calling words can only hurt if the listener ALLOWS it. That is the whole point of the philosophy.
